Thank you, Suzanne!

It was such a serendipitous moment when I checked my mail this weekend, at first wondering who had mailed a package to me, then realizing who it was. Someone who visited my blog, Suzanne from Florida, had bought a Mikey's stamp from me, and she surprised me with this adorable goody bag. Not only that, but she sent this beautiful card as a thank you note along with it! My loot included some Making Memories alphabet charms, some tiny silk flowers, some clear wedding themed stamps, and small clear blocks to USE the stamps, summery-colored bobbin ribbon, and some "slide-shaped" window framed borders. It was presented festively in the celophane bag, punched with a double slit punch, then finished off with the "cheater" bow in pink and green, with the sentiment, "just because." This stamping community is so nice. Thank you so very much, Miss Suzanne, for your generosity and random act of kindness. It truly put a smile on my face.
Suzanne used the "Doodle This" and "Doodle That" sets that are in the current spring mini catalog ($29.95 and $11.95) and did a lovely job in the coloring of the flower. Maybe when she reads this post, she'll explain how she did it....I could use some pointers from her!

So, Suzanne, explain how you did the pastels and the blender pens. I don't get it. I have very little experience with the pastels. I have had them for a long time, but hardly ever use them.

BTW, the Robin's Egg ric rac is divine! --Kelly

How fun you have this community of people who you have never met but share a common passion and send you treats!!

Since they do not make a pastel for Cool Caribbean you have to use the stamp pad. First when closed, you press the lid against the pad. This tranfers the ink on the lid that you now pick up with your blender pen to fill in your image. The other colors I took right from the pastels. I also used a touch of the green marker straight on the paper to give differences in the shading and to highlight areas. Try it, IT'S FUN!!

Got it, Suzanne. I HAVE used the blender pens with the ink pads that way and love the look, but was picturing you using a blender pen with the pastels, and didn't know how that worked. So did you do the yellow part of the flower using the pastels? If so, how did you apply it? Thank you!

Kelly, I did use it on the yellow and on some of the green. You just run the tip of the blender pen across the pastel you choose. I usually will make a small mark on a scrap sheet first to see if the color is right, then go straight to the image and color, picking up more color when needed.( make sure to wipe on scrap paper till the color runs clear before switching to another color) You can tell when you need more when the color runs light. You can do great shading with this method and also the other technique I told you about with the markers.(I like that one best)Try it, you can't really mess it up. Practice makes perfect!! Ha! Ha!

Love that card, I was just thinking I would like to create one using that particular set. Now I have an idea.
